SBASSE Chemical Engineering Programme Receives a Green Signal from Pakistan Engineering Council

The Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) has been authorized by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) to launch its BS Chemical Engineering Programme after successful zero visits. The Programme aims to provide world-class teaching and research in Chemical Engineering. The programme is housed at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, which provides an excellent training platform to the students pursuing their education in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering disciplines. For further information, click here.

 

LUMS Chemistry Faculty Awarded the Prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship

Dr. Muhammad Zaheer, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, LUMS has been awarded the prestigious Charles Wallace Fellowship for an academic visit to the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. These fellowships, offered by The Charles Wallace Pakistan Trust in collaboration with the British Council, aim to enable mid-career academics to widen their professional knowledge, skills and international linkages. Dr. Zaheer is currently visiting the Centre of Atmospheric Sciences, Department of Chemistry at the University of Cambridge. Apart from professional familiarization and networking, he is working on the development of low-cost sensors for the detection of hazardous gases and particulate matter in ambient air in collaboration with Professor Rod Jones.

LUMS Chemistry Students Placed at Top Industries for Summer Internships

The Chemistry Programme at LUMS is designed to create innovative future leaders with a robust understanding of chemical, physical, biological, and mathematical principles for successful careers in chemical science and related fields in industrial, academic, government and non-government organizations. The strength of the standards of teaching and research of the Programme is demonstrated by the fully funded placements of graduates in top-notch Universities in the world. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at LUMS is closely working with the industry in Pakistan for the purposes of exposing students to the industrial environment and preparing them for industrial careers. One of the initiatives that the Department is actively pursuing is the placement of students in the leading industries of the country for summer internships. The response and the support from the industry has been phenomenal.

LUMS MS Chemistry student gets fully-funded Ph.D. admission in Florida State University, USA

Chemistry students at LUMS continue to thrive, as Waseem Afzaal adds another chapter to the success stories of Chemistry graduates from the University. Having defended his MS thesis a week ago, Waseem Afzaal has already received a fully-funded admission offer from the Department of Chemistry at Florida State University (FSU) in the United States of America. Waseem Afzaal is currently a member of the Catalyst-Design Group headed by Dr. Muhammad Zaheer at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. His MS research work focusses on the development of supported catalysts containing ultra-small metal nanoparticles for renewable energy applications.

Chemistry and Biology Faculty Publish In Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry Letters

Dr. Rahman Shah Zaib Saleem, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Dr. Amir Faisal, Associate Professor, Department of Biology have published research paper titled “Synthesis and evaluation of modified chalcone based p53 stabilizing agents”, in Bioorganic Medicinal Chemistry Letters.
