Dr. Naveed Arshad Appointed as the New Director of LUMS Energy Institute (LEI)
We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Dr. Naveed Arshad as the new Director of the LUMS Energy Institute (LEI). Dr. Arshad is an Associate Professor of Computer Science and a distinguished researcher dedicated to advancing innovative and practical solutions in the energy sector. His solution-oriented approach addresses indigenous problems within the energy and power sector in Pakistan. He has spearheaded numerous projects in electric vehicles, energy efficiency, and power sector challenges in Pakistan, such as smart grid development & electric vehicle optimization. Dr. Arshad has made significant contributions to policymaking in the energy sector, notably formulating Pakistan's first National Electric Vehicle Policy.
The IEEE Technical Community on Services Computing (TCSVC) Research Innovation Award 2024
Dr. Basit Shafiq, Associate Professor of Computer Science at LUMS, and Dr. Jaideep Vaidya, Distinguished Professor of Computer Information Systems at Rutgers University, have received the IEEE TCSVC Research Innovation Award. This award recognizes their collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges of composing and managing distributed business process (BP) applications across the cloud-edge continuum, considering all aspects of the BP development lifecycle.
This entire body of work was initiated by a joint project funded by the USAID under the Pakistan-U.S. Science and Technology Cooperation Program, and implemented by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan and the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.
Dr. Irshad Hussain Honored as a Distinguished Scientist by the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Dr. Irshad Hussain, Professor and Chair of the Department of Chemistry & Chemical Engineering, has been recognized as a Distinguished Scientist under the CAS PIFI (Chinese Academy of Sciences President’s International Fellowship Initiative). This accolade places him among a select cohort of global professionals committed to advancing research excellence.
Prof. Hussain earned this prestigious award in recognition of his prolific research collaborations with leading academics in China, resulting in numerous impactful publications in nanomaterials research across esteemed scientific journals. Currently, he is conducting a tour of various CAS institutions in Wuhan and Changchun, where he is delivering a series of lectures and facilitating the exchange of ideas with Chinese researchers supported by CAS funding.
