SAHSOL Faculty Presents Paper at Exeter University

Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) faculty, Dr. Zubair Abbasi presented a paper titled ‘Regulation of Sex Under Islamic Law: Judicial Application of Hudood Laws in Pakistan' at the Governance and Violence in Islamic Law Workshop held at the University of Exeter, UK on November 24, 2017.

This one-day workshop was held under the auspices of the USPPIP project (Understanding Sharia: Past Perfect, Imperfect Present) and was hosted by the University of Exeter.  The workshop covered the specific focus of two elements of the project – violence and governance.  The USPPIP team members, Dr. Omar Anchassi, Eirik Hovden and Professors Robert Gleave, Knut Vikor convened at the workshop.

LUMS Law Student Sana Naeem Wins the Rhodes Scholarship 2018

LUMS Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) student, Sana Naeem, Class of 2018 has been awarded the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship. Only one Pakistani student is selected by the Rhodes Trust for the scholarship each year, which enables the recipient to study the subject of their choice at Oxford University.

Sana competed for the scholarship against the brightest students from across Pakistan, and after an interview of select finalists in Islamabad, was announced as the Rhodes Scholar-Elect for 2018. 

SAHSOL acknowledges its Brightest Students at the Dean’s Honour List Ceremony

The Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) organised its Dean’s Honour List Ceremony on November 8, 2017. This Ceremony is an annual event which recognises the outstanding academic achievements of students across the last four years of the BA-LL.B (Hons) programme. At this year’s Dean’s Honour List Ceremony the Faculty, Adjunct Faculty, parents and students celebrated the best and brightest BA-LL.B students of 2016-17, acknowledging their outstanding academic achievements and inspiring others to follow them.

 

LUMS Law Alumni Association Holds Signing Ceremony

 

The first Board of the LUMS Law Alumni Association gathered at the Office of the Vice Chancellor of LUMS, on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 to sign a Charter for the Association. This ceremony took place just eight months after the successful reunion of the LUMS Law Alumni Association earlier this year.

The event began with a welcome note by the Dean of the Shaikh Ahmad School of Law (SAHSOL), and Patron of the Association, Prof. Dr. Martin Lau, who highlighted the expectations from the Association, particularly in light of the fact that it is the third alumni association to be formed at LUMS.

LUMS Law Journal

LUMS Law Journal is a peer-reviewed journal of Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law, Lahore University of Management Sciences. The primary aim of the Journal is to provide a forum for scholarly debates amongst law students, faculty, lawyers, judges, practitioners and experts on important legal issues, which may lead to policy reforms.It is intended to stimulate interest in all matters pertaining to law, with an emphasis on matters arising from the relationship of law to other disciplines.

Law & Politics Society

The Law and Politics Society is a student organization at LUMS that hopes to encourage legal and political discourse on national and international issues. It aspires to enable students to understand the application of legal principles, and overcome obstacles in actual legal practice by addressing real-life situations through quality debate. Therefore, the LPS aims to cultivate in students at LUMS and abroad an interest in the professional aspect of law and politics through debates, panel discussions, and moots.
