HISTORY OF DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE
The Department of Computer Science at LUMS was founded in 1994, as an undergraduate programme with just two faculty members. Today, the Computer Science and Electrical Engineering programmes combined have nineteen faculty members, with doctorates from some of the best universities in the world. They conduct research in fundamental and applied areas of computer science and computer engineering, including computer architecture, computer vision, data mining, multimedia systems, network and wireless communications, software engineering and theory of computation. In 2008 the department became part of the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE).
SBASSE Team Qualifies For UAV Challenge Medical Express 2018, Australia
A team of students from the Electrical Engineering (EE) and Computer Science (CS) departments of Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) has qualified for the UAV Challenge Medical Express 2018 held in Australia. Team SBASSE is among the top 13 qualifying teams from across the world who participated in the competition. This is the first time that a team from Pakistan has qualified for this Competition, and is competing against notable teams from Australia, Poland, Thailand, Netherlands, Canada, India, and China.

LUMS Computer Science Chair's Research to be Presented at ACM SIGCOMM CCR
Chair and Associate Professor of Computer Science at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS, Dr. Ihsan Ayyub Qazi's research has been selected as one of the two best papers by the ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communications Review (CCR) Editorial Board. In recognition of this award, the research will be presented at the ACM SIGCOMM 2018 Conference in Budapest, Hungary later this year. “This work also included two of my LUMS undergraduate students, Sohaib Ahmed and Zaid A. LUMS Professors Win Google Faculty Research Award
Dr. Ihsan Ayyub Qazi, Chair and Associate Professor of Computer Science at Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE), LUMS, and Dr. Zafar Ayyub Qazi, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at SBASSE, LUMS, have won the highly prestigious and competitive Google Faculty Research Award for their proposal on designing technologies for making the Web faster for the next billion Internet users in developing countries. As part of their project, they will build technologies to improve Web performance on slow devices and networks, which are widely prevalent in developing countries. The proposed research can have a long-term impact on how users in the developing world experience the Web. Complete Story
